the burley manor hotel is the jewel in the crown of the newforest and throughout its long history burley manor hasenjoyed many regal connections. parts of the estate wereprobably laid out in saxon times and must have existedbefore the doomsday book was compiled in 1086. later fornearly 200 years burley was a royal manor. the currentbuilding was erected in 1852 but it was a further 80 yearsbefore the house became a hotel when a restaurant andbedroom wing were added. during world war two the hotel wasrequisitioned and used as a military headquarters by lordmontgomery and his chiefs of staff. over the past 25 yearsthe baronial style hotel has been continually upgraded andrefurbished the most recent additions being a brand newwing of luxurious premier rooms and a conservatory extensionto the restaurant. burley has 38 spacious and eleganten suite bedrooms including some with four poster beds. allare fully equipped with electric trouser press hair dryer colour television and tea and coffee making facilities. thehotel has a relaxing ambience with modern comfortableamenities and several leisure activities. the large loungeis packed with antiques such as a box where gentlemen candeposit their swords before dining and is warmed by ablazing log fire. grand bay windows overlook the stunningscenery a magnificent old cedar tree alongside the croquetlawn outdoor swimming pool heated in the summer and apaddock where a herd of new forest deer graze. thedelightful restaurant with its superb fireplace and viewsover the landscaped gardens serves a variety of traditionalcuisine and is extremely popular locally. thevictorian style conservatory adjoining the restaurant givesthe impression guests are dining alfresco. burley manor hasits own stables with horses suitable for novices to the moreexperienced riders. the hotel has self contained meetingfacilities the largest seating up to a maximum of 60delegates.
